TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Through the last 20 years, ̽Լ has produced an Olympic gold medalist, Super Bowl champion, championship coaches across all levels, front office personnel, and sports agents. Now, ̽Լ is adding a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management beginning Fall 2025 for students seeking a career in coaching, athletics administration or sports business.
The new major brings the total of majors offered by ̽Լ to 19.
Taught in the School of Education’s Department of Kinesiology, in partnership with the School of Business, the B.S. in Sport Management will consist of courses that include an introduction to sport management, facilities and equipment, policy analysis and compliance, and a course in personal branding and name, image and likeness (NIL).
“Tuscaloosa is one of the most successful sports cities in Alabama. Adding a BS in Sport Management is a logical step for ̽Լ based on the interests of our students, faculty, and colleagues in athletics,” said Tim Williams, Chair of the ̽Լ Department of Kinesiology.
Career prospects for students include openings in this field and any job that requires a degree in Sport Management.
This degree will create internship opportunities across the nation, but specifically in Tuscaloosa with the ̽Լ Athletics Department, including the 2026 HBCU Athletic Conference Basketball Championships, hosted by ̽Լ and Visit Tuscaloosa.
Both Tim Williams and Dr. Carol Williams, Dean of the School of Business, Entrepreneurship, Computational and Information Sciences, were instrumental in the development of the new program, along with Dr. Sharon Porterfield, Dean of the School of Education.
“It has been a truly rewarding experience to work alongside Mr. Williams and the School of Education in bringing this innovative program to life. Most inspiring is the promise this program holds for expanding academic offerings and driving enrollment growth at ̽Լ,” said Dean Williams.
̽Լ will be forming an advisory board to help shape the program’s direction. Those interested in serving on the board may contact Mr. Williams at twilliams@stillman.edu.
